The Boy Who Cried Wolf

A young shepherd looked after his flock on a hill near the village, alone, day after day.

He was often bored, since nothing exciting ever happened while he watched the sheep.

One afternoon, he had an idea. He ran toward the village shouting, "Wolf! Wolf! A wolf is attacking the flock!"

The villagers dropped everything and rushed up the hill to help him, but when they arrived, there was no wolf at all. The boy laughed loudly.

The villagers warned him that lying was dangerous, but a few days later, bored again, he cried "Wolf!" a second time. Once more, they found nothing.

Then, one evening, a real wolf came out of the forest and began attacking the sheep. Truly scared, the boy shouted for help as loudly as he could.

But this time, nobody came. The villagers had lost their trust in him and stayed in their houses, thinking it was just another lie.

The wolf scattered the flock, and the shepherd boy finally understood: once you lie, people stop believing you, even when you tell the truth.
